Gift photos

When you make a gift, we mint a short private link and hold the photo plus the hidden line so the URL stays small enough to send. That gift is not listed in the community gallery. Anyone with the link can open it. Links expire after 3 days (gifts made before October 18, 2026 keep the six months they were promised). If a short link cannot be minted, the photo is packed into the URL instead and we do not keep a copy.

What stays on your device

Your daily-puzzle streak, personal bests, in-progress table, settings, and an optional sign-in token are stored in this browser. Clearing site data resets them.

Optional account

If you create a name for the world ladder, we store your email, nickname, and a hashed password, plus the daily times you choose to publish. There is no verification email and no password-reset mail — we cannot prove you own the address. Nicknames on the public ladder are visible to anyone. You can delete the account from the sign-in page (“Delete my name”); that removes the stored user and strips today’s ladder row when the server is connected. Gift links do not use the account.

Anonymous play totals

We count when a puzzle is first moved and when it is completed, together with the play mode, piece count, completion time, and public gallery puzzle ID. These events are kept as date-based totals so we can understand whether the game is useful. They do not include a name, account, cookie, or device identifier. Private gift IDs and your own photo IDs are never included.

Anonymous visits and gift actions

We also count tab sessions, successful gift creation, gift and example opens, next-puzzle clicks, and visits to past daily challenges. Each event records a general page type and source category, such as search or community, and is retained for up to 90 days. We do not include the full URL, referrer, photo, message, email, gift ID, or a visitor identifier in these events. Session storage remembers the general source and prevents repeated opens from being counted within the same tab session; it does not identify you to the server.

Your rights

You can access and erase the optional account as above. In-progress puzzles, streaks, and settings live only in this browser — clear site data to drop them. Gift photos on the server expire after 3 days; we are not a vault. For other requests, use the contact form.

What we don't do

Standard server logs

Our hosting provider keeps standard, short-lived technical logs (like IP addresses) for security and reliability. We don't use them to profile you.

Children

Pieceful is family-friendly. Play without an account collects no personal information. Creating an account is for ages 13 and up. The sign-up form asks you to confirm that.
